Ponder this

Walk this way.

Penguins walking make me smile. Posted by Picasa

Drinking mate

Where ever we go people are always drinking mate. Mate is a tea like beverage with an aquired taste. I'm starting to like it more. Mostly I enjoy particiating in the local custom. Posted by Picasa

Will it make it?

Thankfully, I had a better bounce and my shoes remained dry. Posted by Picasa

The Tide is coming!

You can really get a sense of where we were standing in this picture. This is after Kari recovered her shoe, and I was getting ready to attempt the crossing. Posted by Picasa

One wet shoe.

I'm still sitting on the rock. Kari has attempted the crossing, but in doing so lost a shoe. The place where we crossed before without getting wet is now knee deep. We zipped off the bottoms of our pants and my plan was to throw my shoes across so I would have my hands free. The water went down some and Kari was hesitating, so I started yelling "Throw it! Throw it!" Well, she threw her shoe and it bounced back into the water and started to get carried away with the current. In this picture she was working her way along to where her shoe luckily was caught just around the corner. She was laughing too hard to continue, so being the oh so nice friend I am Itook a picture. She did get her shoe back and the other one, even though it also fell in the water landed floating right side up and didn't get wet. Poor Kari had to walk around the next day with one wet shoe. Posted by Picasa

The tide is coming in...

This is the same rock I was standing on in the previous picture. The tide is starting to get a little high. We walked on without getting wet... Posted by Picasa

surrender to the wave

Pictures just can't do this place justice.
Where I am standing I am completely surrounded by water. Waves are crashing in from both sides. The wind is blowing, the waves and crashing, and we are the only two people we can see and probably for a long ways.

This is near where we saw the penguins. Posted by Picasa

Other wildlife at Camarones

Here are some more shots of wildlife at the park. Posted by Picasa

Pinguino!!

Thursday we rented a car and drove 3 hours north to Camarones. The penguins nest here during the spring and summer. It was really cool to be right next to them. For the most part they stay off the "human path" that is marked by an odd little fence. They do gather under the bridges, and one poked its beak at Kari. It looked quit different from March of the Penguins. Posted by Picasa

Sheila, these pictures are for you. I thought you might be interested in the plant life, but there is no way I would remember the names. I hope you are able to get an idea from the pictures. Posted by Picasa

I´m turning red, and I just don´t care.

I´ve been in Argentina about a week now. So far it has been great. I think about all the poor people in Seattle experience their 20something day of rain while I´m laying on the beach. It is hard to complain about a sunburn in January! Tomorrow we are going to see pengiuns! We rented a car to drive up the coast to one of the nesting areas.
I´ll post more later when I am someplace I can put pictures on here. I´ve been taking lots, but they are stuck on my camera at the moment.
Oh, the little beach next to downtown here is rock not sand, river rocks so they are nice to sit on and we don´t get all sandy when we don´t want to be. I hate sand! And so does my camera.

Leaving on a jet plane...

It is Saturday morning, and I'm setting up my blog before I take off to Argentina to see Kari. I'll have with me our new digital camera and the laptop, so I hope to be doing some posts while I'm away. I will not make any promises about how often.

I fly out of Seattle Tuesday morning at 11:30am and will arrive in Argentina Wednesday afternoon. I arrive back in Seattle February 22. I'd tell you what time, but I doubt I'll want to talk to anyone besides Kevin that day. And my pillow. We have a date for the 22nd.
